Preschool Story Time meets Thursday mornings at 10:00 AM. The activities are aimed at 3-5 year-olds. We have three sessions, spring, summer, and fall. No registration is required.
This is a great opportunity for that first venture out into a social situation. It is also great for the parents/grandparents to have a chance to meet and visit with other parents/caregivers of small children.
Story Time features books, action rhymes, songs, and crafts. It usually lasts about 30 minutes. The crafts may require some help from an adult, but are appropriate for young children. The craft is related to the theme of the books that were shared, so gives the child a take home reminder of story time. Encouraging your child to talk about the stories and craft will help develop the ability to tell a narrative, one of the six pre-reading skills.
We incorporate singing into the program, some times we also use rhythm sticks, because, first, it is fun! Second, it is a great aid in helping children to hear the sounds of language. The rhythms and rhyming help them to distinguish sounds of words, which will help when they are learning to read.
Supervising adults are requested to accompany their children and remove them from the story time area if they become disinterested or disruptive. Children under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult while at the library.
