These booklets each feature a letter of the alphabet. The images are the same as we talk about in Preschool Story Time with our Letter of the Day. Our Letter of the Day relates to the story time theme for a particular day. These booklets incorporate components of the 6 by 6 early literacy initiative, developed by the Johnson County Library(see below), based on the Every Child Ready to Read principles.
There are six areas of focus:
Look for Letters Everywhere – Each booklet focuses on a single letter with examples of upper and lower case letters.
Talk, Talk, Talk– you can talk about the pictures in the booklets, and talk about what happened at Story Time, if you attended the day that letter was featured.
Notice Print all around you – Each picture in the booklet has its name below it. Point to the word as you say it.
Take Time to Rhyme – Make up rhymes with the words in the booklet.
Tell Stories about everything – Make up stories about the pictures in the booklet.
Have Fun with Books – Have fun looking at the booklet with your child. Use the letter as your own letter of the day and look for things all day the start with that letter. Make your own booklet! It doesn’t have to be printed out from a computer. Cut out pictures from magazines, glue them to a piece of paper, write the words near the pictures.
Click on the letter to link to a PDF file of that letter’s booklet:
To make the page into a booklet, print out the page, fold in half, top to bottom, then fold in half again, side to side. It should form a four page booklet.
